At the end of the 19th century, the cities were characterized by poverty, diseases and a growing moral panic. Bernhardina is one of thousands of women affected. Sentenced to lifelong humiliation in Haga's and Majorna's whorehouses, she has to pay the price of having befriended a man as an unmarried person.
Bernhardina lived as a prostitute until she was 40 years old, was in prison four times and lived for a time in a poor house. It was there that she met her life partner, the thief Nicolaus Svensson (Jan Ericson)
Bernhardina Andersson Öhrn was one of many prostitutes in Gothenburg in the 19th century.
